Wednesday night was an exciting time to be a Liverpool fan. There were a number of first team debuts given as the Reds breezed past League One’s MK Dons in the third round of the League Cup. The Anfield side ran out 2-0 winners, with 17 year old Ki-Jana Hoever netting the Reds second goal with a powerful header at the back post following a floated James Milner cross. Jürgen Klopp has given his verdict on the Liverpool youth stars.
The gaffer’s Sheffield United press conference, available on the club’s official site, took place today. During the gathering he told the press his thoughts on his Liverpool youth stars, he said: “I think they are ready for more. We need to find the right moment”. His words will certainly provide the Reds young guns and the Anfield faithful with a lot of encouragement. Kopites round the world were calling for Harvey Elliott to be given more game time after his electric display at Stadium MK. The German doubled down on his support, saying “we are not in doubt about these boys and we know what we want to do with them.”
Although the Liverpool manager has been gushing with praise for his prospects, he did urge them to bide their time. Klopp continued, “They have to be patient….we prepare them not for one PL game but a PL career”. This is an approach we are used to seeing under Jürgen, nobody is introduced into the side until they are ready. It took Fabinho a good 4-5 months to cement his place in the Liverpool side, when he was up to speed with how we play he was unleashed and has become one of the game’s best in his position since. In the youth we hope and in Klopp we trust.
