Jürgen Klopp’s side reached the fourth round after a comfortable 2-0 victory away at MK Dons. The gaffer fielded a youthful side against the League One outfit and it paid off; Ki-Jana Hoever netted Liverpool’s second when he cannoned in a header at the back post. There were also starts for Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

When Liverpool play Arsenal they can give more game time to exciting youth prospects such as those that played against MK Dons. It is vital that we continue to develop our youngsters as it could save us a fortune in the transfer market. If players such as Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster can shine against top flight opposition such as Arsenal it will show that they can step into the first team when needed.

If Klopp beats Arsenal on Wednesday then it will have given him another opportunity to hand important first team minutes to his young prodigies. The best way for youngsters to learn is by playing at a higher level with better players. If we can continue our run in the League Cup, we can continue to develop our brightest talents.

However, if the Reds exit the League Cup at the hands of the Gooners, it is far from a disaster – if anything it is beneficial for Klopp. The EFL Cup is far from a priority for the German boss. Kopites are crying out for a Premier League title, one barrier to a successful title challenge is fixture congestion. If Liverpool lose to Arsenal, they will have less games to tire out players and distract the squad from preparing for more important games.

Wednesday is an ideal fixture for Jürgen Klopp – even if Liverpool lose against Arsenal they don’t lose.
