Liverpool breezed past MK Dons in the League Cup on Wednesday night. The Reds fielded a youthful side and managed to dispatch the League One side 2-0, thanks to goals from James Milner and Ki-Jana Hoever. The win secured a 4th round fixture with Arsenal. However, Liverpool are currently facing League Cup expulsion as they are under investigation for fielding an illegal player.

The player in question is alleged to be Pedro Chirivella, according to a report from Paul Joyce. The player joined Extremadura on loan in January, the case is regarding international clearance. The Reds’ punishment could range from a fine to complete expulsion from the cup.

The case has sparked a conspiracy theory on Twitter. Many Reds fans believe that playing Chirivella was a deliberate move by Jürgen Klopp, made to secure Liverpool’s exit from the competition without losing. Klopp’s side are currently competing on all fronts and could face up to 67 games depending on how they fare in each of their competitions. The League Cup is definitely not a priority of the gaffer’s, to find a way out of the competition without losing would be quite a feat.

This Liverpool fan thought it was a stroke of genius from the big German to bring on Chirivella.

Another Red believes that Jürgen may have grassed on himself.

People were surprised to see Pedro’s name on the team sheet but believe the investigation helps make more sense of his selection.

Footy Accumulators believed it to be the perfect example of a 4D chess move by Klopp.

But the general consensus is that he knew exactly what he was doing.
