This Sunday sees Liverpool visit Man United as strong favourites. The Reds are top of the league by 8 points whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are 12th in the league with just 9 points to their name. Jürgen Klopp’s side will be looking to send a big statement about the state of the rivalry at the minute, Kopites will be hoping for a thumping victory over the old enemy. With the Reds heavily backed for a comfortable victory over their rivals, Jürgen Klopp should give youth a run out against Man United.

Now, to be clear, by no means should Klopp start with his youth prospects, but they should definitely be on the bench. Man United are without some of their key players for the crunch clash. Paul Pogba has been ruled out with an ankle injury that has seen him miss 5 of United’s last 7 matches. Jesse Lingard is also unavailable for the Red Devils. Anthony Martial is a doubt and his involvement will be a last minute decision. Crucially, David de Gea has been ruled out of the tie after picking up a groin injury whilst playing for Spain in a Euros qualifying match against Sweden.

With so many key players missing, Liverpool should be able to run up a lead of at least a couple of goals if they play to the best of their abilities. If the Reds have managed to build an unassailable lead with 20 minutes to go, Klopp should give youth a run out against Man United.

Playing in big games is a crucial experience for developing players. Playing against Man United at Old Trafford is one of the biggest games in Liverpool’s calendar. It is not often that the Reds have a risk free opportunity to give young players a chance against Man United, Klopp should take it with both hands.
