Liverpool are going to need to make a tough decision in the near future. The Reds’ front 3 have been the spearhead of Jürgen Klopp’s juggernaut during their 16 game winning streak. Over the weekend, Liverpool were lucky to beat Sheffield United after scraping a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane. The Reds’ much praised attacking trio were not at the races and one player in particular was not hitting his usual heights: Mo Salah. The Egyptian king has fallen well short of his own standards as of late and continued his dip in form against the Blades. Liverpool should drop Mo Salah for a game in order to help him recover his form.
The fact there is no strength in depth for the Liverpool front line is dangerous for the side. Depth is crucial for competition for places and competition for places in crucial to the maintenance of form. If you don’t have anybody behind you in the pecking order ready to pounce when your form dips, then you are less likely to perform to your best week in, week out.
Another reason Liverpool need better depth in attack is fatigue. At the moment, Jürgen Klopp can hardly afford to rest any of his key attackers, let alone drop them. But drop them he must at times.
The Reds have youngsters in the wings, hungry for first team minutes. A brief spell out of the side would serve to motivate misfiring forwards as well as give vital playing time to Liverpool’s hottest prospects. A run out for Harvey Elliott would do Mo Salah the world of good.
