James Milner was Liverpool's best player against MK Dons

Let’s be honest, James Milner hasn’t been in the best form the past few games. His poor performance in the 2-0 defeat at Napoli saw him benched on the following Sunday against Chelsea.

However, our vice-captain was the best player on the field last night.

I’m not being funny, but Milner might just be a better defender than he is a midfielder. He has been outstanding in that left-back position; in fact, he has been a better defender than Gomez would have been in that position. Not only did the former England international look threatening on the attack, but he also had to pick up the slack of his other teammates.

That mini outburst he directed towards Gomez showed how important a clean sheet was to him. This is a lesson the other Liverpool defenders might want to learn too.

Although Curtis Jones played extremely well, Milner should have been Man of the Match. After all, the 33 year-old was instrumental in our victory tonight.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

It was like watching a new player tonight. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Milner run as much as he did today; he was all over the field in his new position. Milner had quite a few memorable moments during the game too. He created numerous opportunities to the Liverpool youth players and allowed them to demonstrate their skills.

Not only did he assist in the second goal, but the Liverpool midfielder also scored a belter that would have made Steven Gerrard proud.

I hope he continues to play like he did last night, because Milner was extraordinary.
