Harvey Elliott should be Liverpool’s first choice to backup the front 3. As it stands, Liverpool’s depth on the wings is pretty much limited to Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri. However, Harvey Elliott has shown all the spark and exuberance to stake a claim to be our go to substitute when our front 3 get tired.

The boy wonder became Liverpool’s youngest ever starter in a competitive game last night, lining up at just 16 years and 174 days old. Whilst his debut will have dashed the hopes of Reds fans sat in the pub thinking they might still have a chance of making it, it will give the same fans encouragement that Liverpool have a world class young talent waiting in the wings.
It is not since the days of Raheem Sterling that the Reds have seen such a prodigious teenage winger. Sterling made his breakthrough in the 2013/14 season, aged just 18. Elliott is 2 years behind Sterling’s breakthrough age but could still make an impact this year.
When Liverpool are winning a game comfortably, it is time to send him on for the final half an hour. If we need another type of option on the wing, send him on instead of Shaqiri. One thing is for certain, his place in cup games is nailed on.
He was incredibly impressive as Liverpool brushed MK Dons aside at Stadium MK. His desire to go forward was evident as was his trickery and eye for a pass. He showed an attacking flair that Liverpool have been missing at times this season. It is time for Jürgen Klopp to think that the kids are alright.
