He is quickly establishing himself as one of Liverpool’s best modern day holding players. Fabinho has esteemed competition for the spot with the Reds having been graced by the genius of Xabi Alonso and the tenacity of Javier Mascherano in recent years. He may even be better than Christian Poulsen. The Brazilian has spoken with Liverpool FC‘s official magazine, his comments have appeared on the club site.
The midfielder is pleased with the Reds current form and wants the side to maintain their level of performance. He said: “[we have] started really well. I hope this run of form continues as it will help with our confidence in the forthcoming games”. He has lofty ambitions for the season. Following a campaign that saw Liverpool somehow finish second despite picking up a whopping 97 points, the ex Monaco man has urged the Reds to go one step further this year. Speaking about Liverpool’s landmark points tally, he said “it shows that if we want to be champions we have to do something extra. It’s not enough beating the record, sometimes we have to do even more.”
These are encouraging sides for Reds fans. Last season’s Premier League campaign was heartbreaking for the Anfield club and their supporters. Jürgen Klopp notched the 3rd highest ever points tally in the history of the competition yet they eventually came up short. To see the players coming out and wanting to fight even harder after giving their all and falling at the last hurdle is heartening. Fingers crossed the whole Melwood camp is as determined as Fabinho is to right the wrongs of last season.
