Liverpool flew back to Chicago on Sunday morning after beating Sunderland 4-2 at Geodis Park in Nashville.

There were plenty of promising signs for the Reds in their first outing under Andoni Iraola, and despite the lack of transfer activity, supporters will no doubt be looking forward to seeing their team in action again.

Thankfully, they will not have to wait long for that, with Liverpool set to play two more games over the next week, with the first arriving on Thursday morning.

Liverpool face Wrexham in another night time kick-off

European football fans have become used to staying up late – or getting up early – to watch the football this summer after the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

That may have made Saturday’s 11pm BST kick-off more palatable, but it will not be the end of the early mornings for Liverpool supporters.

The Reds will play at the even more inconvenient time of half past midnight on Thursday morning, with a game against Championship side Wrexham next up.

Having already travelled the 479 miles from Chicago to Nashville, Liverpool will fly 790 more to get to New York to play at the famed Yankee Stadium.

Who will and will not be available for Liverpool?

With the transfer window obviously still open, Liverpool fans will be desperate for some movement before Thursday’s match.

However, if any new signings do unexpectedly get tied up, they will not feature during the clash with Wrexham.

Iraola will be able to count on some fresh faces, though, with confirmation already arriving that Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch will join the squad ahead of Thursday’s fixture.

All three should be available immediately, and it would be a surprise if each did not play at least some part against Phil Parkinson’s team.

In terms of absences, the Reds will still be without Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and Victor Munoz who remain on holiday, while Iraola has a couple of new fitness issues to worry about.

Joe Gomez was taken off inside 10 minutes against Sunderland, and though the head coach did not confirm that he will not play on Thursday, he did not sound hopeful of a quick return for the centre-back.

Meanwhile, Iraola did say that Jeremy Jacquet will not feature against Wrexham, and will only return for the final game of the tour, which comes next Sunday against Leeds in Chicago, with a 9pm BST kick-off.

As things stand, Giovanni Leoni, Wataru Endo, Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike all remain sidelined, but having travelled with the squad while being close to returns, there is perhaps a chance for Leoni and Endo to come back in. The same may be true of Stefan Bajcetic, who finally came back to team training earlier in the week.
