Maghnes Akliouche is once again being linked with a transfer to Liverpool, but Anfield has never been his ideal move.
Alongside the Reds, Akliouche has been garnering interest from Ligue 1 powerhouse PSG this summer.
Liverpool fans have questioned a move for the winger, and probably wouldn’t mind if he opted to snub them for the French club, who are the Champions League holders and currently have a much better squad than the Premier League outfit.
However, Akliouche has never had a desire to play for either side, with his dream instead to swap Monaco for Spain, specifically FC Barcelona.
How happy would you be if FSG sell Liverpool? 💰
Maghnes Akliouche said he wanted to play for FC Barcelona if he left AS Monaco
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo shared an old video of the Frenchman in 2024 talking about his ideal team.
In it, he mentioned that apart from Monaco, he wants to play for Barcelona.
Akliouche said: “Besides playing for Monaco, I’d like to play for Barca. Messi is my idol. He’s the best player in the world.”
The interviewer then asked him: “Isn’t Cristiano Ronaldo?” to which he responded: “No.”
Later in the conversation, the Liverpool target added: “The Spanish league is my favourite because of the style of play.”
However, a move to Barcelona in the 2026 summer transfer window is probably not on the cards for the 24-year-old.
That is because the La Liga club have already spent big on former Liverpool target Anthony Gordon.
In turn, it is probably a two-horse race between the Merseyside outfit and PSG for his signature.
Should he opt to move to Paris, that would probably open the door for the current European champions to sell Bradley Barcola to Liverpool.
Barcola is an incredibly quick player, as was on full display during the World Cup, which probably makes him a more suitable option than Akliouche.
However, unlike the Monaco talent, the PSG ace is not a natural right-winger, so he may not make the most sense as a direct replacement for Mohamed Salah.
