Liverpool are yet to see any kind of return on the £116m they forked out to pay Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz 12 months ago.
The Reds surprisingly won the race for Wirtz ahead of Man City and Bayern Munich, but though huge things were expected of the German, he has so far failed to deliver, hitting just seven goals and eight assists during his debut campaign at Anfield.
Wirtz was easily outperformed by Morgan Rogers, who scored 14 goals, laid on 11 assists and won the Europa League with Aston Villa. Rogers’ form is set to earn him a £117m move to Chelsea, and with the England man playing a similar position to Wirtz, Rousing The Kop asked readers on social media whether they would still pick their No. 7 over the Chelsea-bound star.
How does Andoni Iraola fit Wirtz and Isak into Liverpool’s starting XI next season?
Will we finally see the best of them after encouraging World Cups?
Liverpool fans are still backing Wirtz all the way
Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Rogers in the past, though that is said to have cooled over the past year or so, potentially in direct relation to their signing of Wirtz.
Despite looking like he was heading for Arsenal, the 23-year-old will now join Xabi Alonso at Chelsea, with Wirtz’s former manager surely earmarking Rogers for a similar role to the one he was used in at Bayer Leverkusen.
There is certainly a comparison to be had there, but when RTK asked fans on Facebook who they would rather have at Liverpool given a choice right now, there was barely a single voice of support in favour of Rogers.

“Wirtz is still superior because he played different roles under Slot, we can not really judge him,” one fan said.
“Rogers is a good player but Wirtz is a different level,” another added. “If Iraola can get best out of him he is future ballon d’or winner.”
“You should remember that this is the first season of Florian Wirtz in the premier league compared to Morgan Rogers,” someone else weighed in. “So no need for this comparison at all. Let’s see what Wirtz will accomplish under the new manager and also his second season in English football.”
“Wirtz – NO doubt!” another insisted. “He is absolute world class! Please remember that if the other players have scored on all the chances he created, he would have almost 20 assists.”

“You’re comparing Rogers to Wirtz then you’re not a football fan,” one more supporter claimed, while someone else accused RTK of ‘Comparing someone’s best season and someone’s worst season.’
“This post was made by a Chelsea fan,” one more supporter fumed. “Have you forgotten Wirtz was a Bundesliga player of the season back to back… Rogers isn’t there at his level yet.”
Finally, one fan claimed that they would ‘choose Wirtz a hundred times’, showing that despite his slow start to life at Anfield, there is still nobody Liverpool fans would rather have in their attacking midfield role than the German.
