Liverpool fans have made a decision about Yan Diomande after underwhelming World Cup display vs Germany

Liverpool supporters were excited to settle in to watch Yan Diomande in World Cup action on Saturday night, with Ivory Coast taking on Germany in Ontario.

But despite Diomande impressing Gary Neville and Ian Wright with some direct wing play during the first-half, it was a largely underwhelming display from the teenager, who never really got fully going.

It was certainly not the performance of a €120m player, which is seemingly what Liverpool will have to pay to pluck him from RB Leipzig this summer, and having watched him struggle to justify that fee, supporters are growing twitchy that the Reds could be about to make an expensive mistake.

Liverpool fans do not think Diomande is worth the money

Diomande did well on his World Cup debut last week and there were flashes of some good stuff during the Germany defeat.

However, when asked across Rousing The Kop‘s social media pages whether the 19-year-old is worth paying such a huge fee for, fans were unanimously in agreement that it could be a mistake from Liverpool.

“He looks decent but I’m not sure if he worth over 100m they are asking for,” said one supporter on RTK‘s X page. “Needs to work on his decision making & is a bit raw but still very young. I miss Sadio Mane”

“He’s quick, confident, not scared to take on opponents but I don’t see it and for that price. I’m not convinced,” agreed another, before adding: “If we are looking for players that press, there were moments where he pulls a Rashford and just lightly jogs at the opponent, not really creating any sort of pressure.”

“Wasting money if we get him for that much. 60m player at best,” someone else argued, while another claimed: “he’s a 65 million player based on potential and his current ability. poor game tonight.”

“Never worth that amount. £50m at most,” was another fan’s view. “Decent and has potential, but the price tag is mental.”

“He is far from €100m price tag,” one more supporter summed up. “Liverpool should look for alternative player.”

Some supporters stick up for Diomande

While the vast, vast majority of replies to RTK‘s question insisted that Diomande had shown that he is not worth the money currently being asked for, there some voices of support for the Ivorian.

“Hes a really good player finding spaces his pass was the reason they scored and has bags of potential.” one fans said. “Just because he doesn’t pull off a 10/10 performances week in / out doesn’t mean he isn’t worth it.”

“Thing is you’re not paying 100m for the player he is now,” another argued. “You’re paying 100m for what you believe he will be in 3 years time.”

“We’re judging him on one game, where he played on the opposite wing to where he normally plays, are we??” questioned another, potentially fairly.

But while there were some willing to stick up for Diomande in the 100s of comments we received, the overwhelming verdict was that this is looking like an even bigger gamble from Liverpool than initially thought.
