Liverpool striker Alexander Isak looks like he’s getting back to his best despite being on the wrong end of a World Cup hammering on Saturday.

That’s the view of former Reds striker Daniel Sturridge, who liked what he saw from Isak during Sweden’s 5-1 defeat against a Cody Gakpo inspired Netherlands.

Gakpo scored twice and registered an assist in a handsome win for the Dutch, but after seeing Liverpool‘s No. 9 in action again, Sturridge singled Isak out for praise.

How does Andoni Iraola get the Netherlands version of Cody Gakpo for Liverpool?

This is not the same player 😭

Isak ‘getting back to his best’ at the World Cup – Sturridge

Although he’ll have been extremely disappointed by the scoreline, as well as one poor moment where he gave the ball away in the build-up to Gakpo’s second goal of the night, Isak still managed to set up Sweden’s lone goal of the game.

It was an excellent through ball for Anthony Elanga, and meant he is now the player with the most goal contributions at this summer’s World Cup.

Sturridge had seen enough even before Isak slid the ball through for Elanga to finish, posting on X to share his delight at seeing the 26-year-old getting back into his groove.

“Isak is class. Every time Sweden look dangerous, he’s involved,” said the former Liverpool striker.

“Deserves a goal or assist. Not bad off the left either. Safe to say he’s getting back to his best.”

Although it would have been nice to see Isak grab himself a goal, he now has one goal and three assists in two matches at the World Cup.

Another 90 minutes in the bank is also excellent news for Liverpool as he works his way back into being ready to hit the ground running in August.
