Victor Munoz has been confirmed as Liverpool’s first official senior signing of the 2026 summer transfer window.

After links to plenty of other wingers in the last few months, it did feel like the Munoz deal came somewhat out of nowhere.

However, it has now been shared that new manager Andoni Iraola pushed for the signing and made it clear that the Spaniard can be a ‘real asset’ for Liverpool.

How excited are you by Liverpool’s surprise signing of Victor Munoz?

And what do you think his role will be next season? Is he an immediate starter?

Andoni Iraola thinks Victor Munoz will be a ‘real asset’ for Liverpool

Journalist Paul Gorst recently appeared on The Blood Red podcast to discuss the Merseyside outfit’s first signing of the summer.

When doing so, he suggested that the transfer plans may have changed somewhat now that Iraola is in charge and has a different style of play.

Gorst also mentioned that the former Bournemouth coach made it clear to Liverpool’s recruitment team that Munoz can be a real asset to the squad.

He explained: “So when Iraola sits with his recruitment team very early on, it’s a clean slate. So the profile of players that might have been previously under consideration, maybe they’re not suitable for this new style of play. So no surprise to hear that he’s been the one who’s driven this one with Victor Munoz.

“Less than two weeks after coming in, he’s made it clear that Munoz is someone who can be a real asset to the squad”

Such a claim is perhaps not surprising, given that despite his fairly limited experience at senior level, the Spanish forward is already proving himself to be incredibly versatile.

He is a natural left winger, so he will probably come in initially to compete with Rio Ngumoha and Cody Gakpo.

However, Munoz can also play off the right and through the middle, which should be incredibly useful for Liverpool now that they are losing Mohamed Salah, and Hugo Ekitike is unlikely to play again for most of 2026.
