Liverpool ‘definitely’ like the look of Morocco starlet Ayyoub Bouaddi but may not be the favourites to land him this summer.
That’s according to journalist Lewis Steele, who took a look into the Reds’ interest in Bouaddi ahead of Morocco’s win over Scotland on Saturday morning.
The Atlas Lions continued their good start to the World Cup with a 1-0 win against Andy Robertson and co, with Bouaddi playing the full 90 minutes.
Now the fixtures have been revealed, do you think Liverpool will win the Premier League in 26/27?
Ahead of the game, Steele spoke to Anfield Index to suggest that while Liverpool are certainly in the mix to sign the Lille teenager, he is still not being seen as a priority.
Liverpool not in the driving seat for Bouaddi
While it would perhaps be wrong to describe Bouaddi as a breakout star of the World Cup so far – he was already well-known within the European game – he is certainly one of the young players of the tournament at this stage.
Interest in him is only going to grow as Morocco continue to do well, and Steele has hinted that despite their definite admiration for the player, this could see Liverpool beaten to him this summer.
“I think it’s clear that they like him, but it’s also clear that there’s a lot of competition for his signature,” he said.

“Liverpool are unsure whether he would be a priority in a summer where they’ve got to do so much else.
“So, at the moment it seems to be that Liverpool are not at the top of the list for him.
“We said they’re in the driving seat for [Yan] Diomande, but they’re more sort of lurking in the back of the car for Bouaddi,” Steele added.
“It’s definitely true to say that they like him, so let’s see if they step it up or whether they get beaten to that one.”
Though some supporters would disagree that adding a top young midfielder is not a priority for Liverpool, it is clear that securing Diomande, and potentially a new right-back, is where the energy should currently be focused.
Nevertheless, until things progress with any other club, Bouaddi remains one to keep a close eye on in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
