Why Curtis Jones’ move to Inter Milan has gone quiet since Liverpool sacked Arne Slot

Despite looking fairly certain to leave Liverpool during the summer transfer window, it has all gone a little quiet in the case of Curtis Jones and his move to Inter Milan.

With one year remaining on his deal at Anfield – and no talks over an extension in sight – it had appeared to be a foregone conclusion that Jones would be exiting his boyhood club.

However, there were rumblings following the sacking of Arne Slot on May 30th that the 25-year-old could potentially reverse his decision to leave, and the lack of progress on his proposed switch to Inter Milan has only heightened that feeling in the eyes of some.

However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, this is not the case, and while things are indeed at a bit of stalemate between Inter and Liverpool, the Italian champions are still determined to get their man.

Jones’ move to Inter Milan is still on

Jones had been hopeful of being at the World Cup with England this summer, but after being overlooked by Thomas Tuchel he is free to arrange a move away from Liverpool without any distractions.

Nevertheless, that does not mean that the process will be smooth, and, as he outlined for his YouTube channel on Friday morning, Inter have been forced to delay Jones’ signing as they firstly try to organise their squad with sales and secondly attempt to bridge the gap in valuation between themselves and Liverpool over Jones.

“It’s mid-June. So, clearly, Inter will have to work step by step,” Romano said. “They have outgoing players, not only incoming ones, and various situations will need to be clarified.”

“People are asking why the name of Curtis Jones disappeared from the news, what’s up with Curtis Jones? Nothing changes, Curtis Jones remains a very high name on Inter’s list, their favourite since January and the player is completely open.

“We need to make the numbers add up,” added the transfer expert. “Inter are starting at 20 million Euros, but Liverpool want 30 plus resale value so there’s still a gap to fill.

“Jones remains an absolute target, but [Davide] Frattesi’s departure and all the other consequential discussions are important in order to be able to get to the bottom of another big target for Inter’s summer.”

Despite the exit of a coach who did not see him as part of his starting XI, and the chance to start anew under Andoni Iraola this summer, it seems that Jones will still very much be on the way out of Liverpool in the next two-and-a-half months.
