Liverpool have decided that they will not be selling goalkeeper Alisson Becker this summer.

Before the 2026 summer transfer window officially got underway, Alisson was heavily linked to Juventus.

The Brazilian has one year left on his contract, and a move in the current window would have made sense if the Reds wanted to ensure they recoup some form of fee for the player whom they paid £66.8m for.

However, Liverpool will not sell Alisson, a decision that is said to have left Juventus and manager Luciano Spalletti ‘stunned’.

How excited are you by Liverpool’s surprise signing of Victor Munoz?

And what do you think his role will be next season? Is he an immediate starter?

Juventus ‘stunned’ Liverpool will not sell Alisson

Journalist Fabrizio Romano provided the update when speaking via his YouTube channel.

He stated: “What was the original plan of Juventus’ transfer market under the Comolli management? Alisson.

“Because, as I’ve told you, the goalkeeper Juventus had identified for the 2026–27 season was absolutely the Brazilian. The deal with the player was practically close to being finalised, but then Liverpool decided to take him off the market.

“That left not only Juventus somewhat stunned, but also Luciano Spalletti himself, who was expecting guarantees regarding the Brazilian’s future — guarantees that ultimately turned out to be anything but guarantees.

“So now Juventus will have to reassess the situation and evaluate alternative solutions.”

Liverpool blocking the move is perhaps not surprising given that Giorgi Mamardashvili may not be ready to become Liverpool’s number one this summer.

The former Valencia goalkeeper played quite a lot last season due to Alisson’s injury problems.

But he was not the most consistent shot-stopper, and it has instead been reported that Mamardashvili could leave on loan ahead of 2026/27.

In turn, it would not make sense to sell Alisson now, as that would require Liverpool sign another number-one keeper when they already have a player who is close to taking that spot.
