‘Noise growing’ over Alex Scott leaving Bournemouth for Liverpool in Andoni Iraola reunion

Liverpool fans could yet see a Bournemouth reunion at Anfield next season after Andoni Iraola was confirmed as the club’s new head coach.

Iraola takes charge after three excellent years with the Cherries, in which he established the club as a terrific finishing school for young players on their way to the top.

Liverpool have benefited from Bournemouth’s feeder club status, signing Milos Kerkez last summer. Iraola arriving was always likely to see links arrive for a number of the Cherries’ best players, and journalist Alex Crook has now suggested that a move for midfielder Alex Scott could be one to watch.

What did you like about Andoni Iraola’s first interview as Liverpool head coach?

And was there anything you weren't sure about?

Scott to Liverpool should not be ruled out

Liverpool could be in the market for a new midfielder this summer after seeing their Premier League title-winning partnership fall apart last year.

After the struggles Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister endured under Arne Slot in 2025/26, Crook has suggested that Iraola could look to bring Scott in to help sort things out.

Asked about the possibility of the 22-year-old joining Liverpool and reuniting with his former manager, the reporter told TalkSPORT not to rule it out.

“That noise seems to be growing and you can understand why,” Crooks said.

“It was a problem for Liverpool last season, that midfield. Gravenberch and Mac Allister certainly weren’t on the same level and Alex Scott is a player Iraola knows well.

“I know Bournemouth are keen to tie him down to a new contract,” he added. “But it’s certainly one to watch.

“It’s a similar situation that Bournemouth find themselves in to last summer, because they’ve done so well under Iraola, a lot of clubs are sniffing around their players. I expect the interest in Alex Scott only to grow.”

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a possible move for Adam Wharton, but with Scott a little more robust and potentially a smidgen cheaper, this is one to keep in mind.

Scott talked up Iraola’s move to Liverpool while making up the numbers in England training ahead of the World Cup, and it is clear that he would welcome the chance to link up with the Reds’ new head coach once again.
