RB Leipzig make Rio Ngumoha request as Liverpool’s Yan Diomande negotiations continue

RB Leipzig have expressed an interest in signing Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha as they negotiate a deal with the Reds for Yan Diomande.

The latest reports have suggested that Liverpool are optimistic over signing Diomande, but have still yet to agree what is likely to be a huge fee.

In the meantime, there have been claims that the Reds could offer Harvey Elliott to Leipzig in an attempt to lower the cost, but according to Sky Germany reporter Philipp Hinze, the Bundesliga side have already tried – and failed – to go after Ngumoha instead.

Ngumoha to RB Leipzig ‘not feasible’

Liverpool supporters were shocked earlier in June when reports emerged that Bayern Munich were trying to sign Ngumoha.

The 17-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in world football, and, as a result, Reds fans are desperate to see him stay and develop further in 2026/27.

As Hinze reported to X on Thursday, though, Leipzig were another of the team interested in taking Ngumoha away from Anfield, but have since had it made clear to them that there is no chance of the teenager joining them.

“In addition to FC Bayern, RB Leipzig also expressed interest in Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha weeks ago,” he said.

“It quickly became clear that the 17-year-old is not feasible for Leipzig. Package, ambitions, competition…

“Exciting profile for RB, but currently not doable, unless a completely unforeseen door opens during the transfer period. Player currently (far) out of Leipzig’s reach.”

With Liverpool needing to meet Leipzig’s steep demands over Diomande, perhaps the Red Bull club felt they had a certain amount of leverage. You certainly cannot blame them for asking the question about Ngumoha.

But if the Reds are to pluck Diomande, then it is clear that the plan will be for the two prodigious teenagers to play together. Others may well try before the transfer window closes, but, thankfully, it seems fairly certain that Ngumoha is going nowhere.
