The 2026 World Cup gives Liverpool fans a chance to see some of their club’s transfer targets up close, including Yan Diomande.

Diomande has been a target for a while now, with a deal potentially on the cards this summer.

The winger got off to an impressive start in North America on Monday when the Ivory Coast won their first group game 1-0 against Ecuador, becoming the first player to reach a number of statistical milestones in the same game.

How impressive has Yan Diomande been at the 2026 World Cup?!

Yan Diomande sets World Cup record with most chances, tackles, duels and touches in the opposition box

As per Opta: “Yan Diomande became the first player Opta has on record since 1966 to create 5+ chances (5), make 5+ tackles (5), win 10+ duels (11) and have 10+ touches in the opposition’s box (12) in a FIFA World Cup match.”

It was a very impressive display from the Liverpool target, even if he had no role in the winning goal.

However, while it is great to see Diomande shine at the 2026 World Cup, it may not be ideal for the Liverpool transfer chiefs.

We already know that PSG are in the race for the forward, though the Reds do seem slightly ahead of them.

But if Diomande continues to produce top-tier performances in North America over the next few weeks, that may see more clubs begin to firm up their interest in the player.

A price tag of £87m has been mooted already, but RB Leipzig might want to demand even more if he has a starring role at this summer’s tournament.

Ivory Coast and Diomande are next in action on Saturday, June 20, when they will take on Group E favourites Germany in a tie that is likely to feature Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz.

They will then face Curacao on June 25, and a win in that match should be enough to see them secure automatic qualification for the Round of 32.
