Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz are now competing at the 2026 World Cup together for Germany.

The Arsenal and Liverpool stars will be looking to see their country improve on previous European and World Cup tournaments, in which they have come up somewhat short.

Germany get their campaign underway this coming Sunday in a 6pm BST meeting with Curacao, whom they should be dispatching with relative ease.

While out in North America preparing for their upcoming games, Havertz has been praising Wirtz and his ball-controlling ability.

Kai Havertz wants to control the ball like Florian Wirtz

Wirtz had a difficult debut season at Liverpool, suffering through a couple of tough patches that really didn’t match up with his £116m transfer fee.

However, he has generally been a lot more prolific for his country over the last 12 months or so.

This may have been due to how Arne Slot was using him for the Reds, or simply because he has not adapted to Premier League football yet.

Still, Havertz is a big fan of the former Bayer Leverkusen man’s ability to control the ball and wishes he could take it for himself.

In an interview with David Rau via TikTok, the Arsenal attacker was asked: “Then you get to take one footballing ability from a teammate. Which player, and which ability?”

He responded: “I’d say Flo Wirtz. His ball control, I’d say.”

Jurgen Klopp backs Florian Wirtz to shine

A good World Cup could be just what the Liverpool star needs to kick on and improve on what was a very mixed 2025/26 campaign.

On that front, former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp backed Wirtz to improve when speaking ahead of the tournament getting underway this week.

He said: “I think he has everything you need to be a standout player. I don’t want to put any pressure on the boy, stuff like that.

“Unlucky with injuries, besides that, I really think he showed already how good he can be in a difficult season, we all know that.”
