Liverpool could give Andoni Iraola exactly the sort of winger he helped develop at Bournemouth, if they push hard enough for Yan Diomande this summer.
Iraola is expected to be confirmed as Liverpool’s next manager, and FSG’s top attacking target happens to be the kind of player he has a track record of getting the best out of. During his time at Bournemouth, few stories stood out more than Antoine Semenyo’s rise.
Diomande is not a carbon copy of Semenyo, but the similarities are obvious. He is quick, direct, dangerous off either flank and already adding end product at a young age, which makes him exactly the sort of winger Iraola has shown he can turn into a serious Premier League weapon.
Be honest, are you upset it’s Iraola and not Xabi Alonso? 👀
Sounds like Liverpool were always leaning towards the Bournemouth boss…
Andoni Iraola can do an Antoine Semenyo with Yan Diomande
Semenyo’s growth under Iraola was a symbol of Bournemouth’s progress. He became more decisive, more confident and more consistent, before earning a January move to Manchester City worth £65m.
He ended the season with 20 goals across all competitions, split evenly between Bournemouth and City.
Diomande, meanwhile, has had a similarly impressive campaign in Germany, scoring 12 goals and assisting eight in 33 Bundesliga games.

Both players are direct, explosive and comfortable attacking from both flanks. But they offer more than just width — they carry real goal threat.
Liverpool have viewed Diomande as a possible Mohamed Salah replacement for some time, and that idea looks even more compelling with Iraola’s arrival. If there is a coach who has shown he can shape that kind of player, it is him.
Liverpool need to push despite uncertainty around Yan Diomande
RB Leipzig are not under major pressure to sell. Red Bull Head of Global Soccer Jurgen Klopp believes Diomande will stay for at least another year and sign a new deal.
That creates uncertainty, but it does not make a move impossible. Diomande has already spoken about the importance of being patient in his career, but he clearly has big ambitions, even if he is in no rush to force a move.
Liverpool cannot afford to be passive, though. With Salah leaving and the attack in need of new energy, Diomande fits the profile of a two-sided winger who could thrive under the right guidance.
Who would you rather see at Liverpool next season, Diomande or Barcola? 🤔
One of the most exciting teens in Europe vs a Champions League winner…
Even if this is a tough deal to pull off, Liverpool need to test Leipzig’s resolve. If Iraola could help turn Semenyo into a £65m Manchester City signing, there is every reason to think he could take Diomande to another level at Anfield.
