Liverpool fans will be so glad that the 2025/26 season is behind them and they never have to watch ‘Slot-ball’ again.
The Reds spent nearly a decade being treated to fast, aggressive, heavy-metal football under Jurgen Klopp, a style of play Arne Slot did his best to destroy during his final 12 months in charge.
Liverpool have been so boring, lacked any clear vision, and fans had simply had enough. But with Andoni Iraola already earning praise from Pep Guardiola for seeing Bournemouth ‘playing offensive and attractive football’, the woes of 2025/26 should hopefully be forgotten soon.
Andoni Iraola will bring offensive and attractive football to Liverpool
It is fair to say that since arriving in England, the Spanish coach has left a favourable impression on a number of people.
Jurgen Klopp has praised Iraola previously, highlighting how he turned Dominic Solanke into a top striker before he moved to Tottenham Hotspur.
Meanwhile, speaking back in November 2023, as per the BBC, Guardiola lauded the incoming Liverpool boss for ‘playing offensive and attractive football’.
He said: “After a win there always is confidence. They competed really well against Liverpool. Andoni is an incredible, well-respected manager in Spain and did an incredible job in Rayo Vallecano.
“[Bournemouth are] playing offensive and attractive football. What I see is an alive team. It’s a team with good spirit, not set back, and of course the result gives confidence and when you don’t have it, you can’t produce that.
“In Spain he is one of the youngest managers that has a better future, and training in the Premier League is an incredible success for him.”
Such a verdict must bring music to the ears of Reds fans after some of the dire football they were subjected to last term.
All Slot did was go on about how he wanted to play as Liverpool did against PSG in the Champions League in 2024/25, yet even when they faced the French giants again in 2025/26, the football was bland and incredibly defensive.
Supporters don’t care about the results and how many trophies are won, at least not completely.
All they want is to see their team playing the Liverpool way: fast, attractive, aggressive football, which is exactly what Iraola should bring.
Had Slot kept that style in 2025/26, he may well have still been in charge today despite a fifth-place finish. But a new era is now beginning, and it’s incredibly exciting.
