Arne Slot has been sacked by Liverpool, and speculation is rife around who will replace the Dutchman in the Anfield dugout.

Andoni Iraola appears to be the frontrunner for the job at the moment, but, as ever, there’s always one name just lurking in the background.

Indeed, for as long as he’s around, Steven Gerrard will be linked with the Liverpool job, and immediately after Slot’s departure, the Liverpool legend has commented on his managerial plans.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Gerrard has shared his view on getting back into management.

Is Andoni Iraola the best option to replace Arne Slot? If not, who would you appoint?

Steven Gerrard gives managerial update

Gerrard hasn’t been in management for over 12 months at this point since leaving Al Ettifaq.

However, the former Rangers boss hasn’t given up on his coaching career, claiming that he’s keeping the door open for a return.

“Do you ever plan to manage again?” Gerrard was asked.

“Who knows? You never shut a door. I’m enjoying my work-life balance, coaching is tough, it’s challenging. I’ve had some real big opportunities. I’ve enjoyed a lot of it, but at the moment, family time, TNT, doing some other bits around what I do, travelling, I’m really happy at the moment. Getting lots of time with my kids, which I’ve missed whilst I’ve been coaching, so at the moment, I would say maybe,” Gerrard said.

Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool chances may have increased

At one point, it looked as though Steven Gerrard would have no chance of becoming Liverpool manager.

Indeed, a difficult spell at Aston Villa and a move to Saudi Arabia hardly screams ‘future Liverpool manager’.

However, certain figures do just click at certain clubs, even if they don’t have the right coaching pedigree.

Michael Carrick has just got the Manchester United job off the back of a spell at Middlesbrough by virtue of being a club legend, and, who knows? Perhaps Gerrard could go down a similar sort of route at Anfield.
