Liverpool could reportedly make an ambitious move to appoint Luis Enrique after sacking Arne Slot on Saturday.
Following the surprise news that Slot has been relieved of his duties, former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has been quickly named as favourite to take over at Anfield.
However, according to Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam, the Liverpool shortlist contains another name, with a potential swoop for Luis Enrique if he can win a second consecutive Champions League title with Paris Saint-Germain.
Is Andoni Iraola the best option to replace Arne Slot? If not, who would you appoint?
Enrique may be one to watch
If Liverpool fans had a choice, Enrique would obviously be the best candidate to take over from Slot this summer.
The Spaniard is arguably the best manager in the world right now and has a proven track record of winning big titles.
Though it seems like a pipe dream with Enrique enjoying himself in Paris and still having one year to run on his contract, McAdam has claimed that he could yet be one to watch in the Liverpool managerial race.
“The brand of football clearly is one of the big factors [in sacking Slot,”] he says. “The shortlist to replace Arne Slot I believe has two names. One is Iraola.”

“At this stage, we know Liverpool haven’t officially spoken to any candidates, but we know Andoni Iraola is one of those that the players would like to speak to.
“Champions League day. Luis Enrique at PSG,” McAdam continues. “Three league titles on the spin, could win back-to-back Champions League’s. Would that be the perfect opportunity to say goodbye to Paris? We do know he has one year left on his contract.
“I do find it fascinating that Liverpool have sacked Arne Slot today. In the next 24 hours there could be some significant changes at PSG. Who knows? We know there are two names on Liverpool’s shortlist. Andoni Iraola’s one. Who is the other one? I just find it really intriguing that the announcement comes on a day like today.”
Elsewhere, there have been fairly firm claims that Iraola is very, very much in the driving seat to take over. But if Enrique were to suddenly decide that he’s had enough at PSG, it stands to reason that Liverpool would be keen to swoop in.
We wouldn’t be too sure of this one just yet, and there are lot of ifs and maybes involved, but until Iraola is confirmed, fans will hold out hope that something sensational could still happen here.
