Although many Liverpool fans were pleased – and perhaps relieved – to see Arne Slot given the boot on Saturday, there was still plenty of sadness mixed in as well.

The Dutchman won the Premier League at the first time of asking for the Reds, before a dismal second season made his position at the club somewhat untenable.

Throughout this year’s disappointing form, Liverpool supporters have begun to turn against Slot both online and in-person at Anfield. But when Rousing The Kop asked fans for their goodbye messages for the 47-year-old, many kept it respectful and thanked him for his work with the Reds.

Liverpool fans thank Slot for Premier League title

Things undeniably turned sour for Slot as Liverpool head coach quite some time ago, but it is fair to say that the former Feyenoord boss deserves to still look back with pride at his spell in charge.

For a section of supporters, he will never be allowed that, but for the more reasonable, he absolutely will. While some on RTK‘s Facebook page were disparaging towards Slot after being asked to post their parting messages, most were keen to give him his due.

“The Kop will always remember you, as a coach who led us to our 20th title, always a red,” said one fan.

“We wish him the best in his next adventure,” another added, with a third commenting: “I wish him the best… And thanks for the great memories… YNWA.”

“Thank you for number 20, good luck in your future. YNWA,” one more supporter said, and another claimed that it was ‘very sad news.’

Similar messages came through on X, with one fan saying: “Thank you for our number 20. We appreciate it so much. YNWA. Unfortunately it ends here. All the best boss.”

Some supporters won’t let Slot go with dignity

Despite many fans giving Slot the respect he deserves on his way out of the door, others simply will not let the disappointment of this season go.

“Take the players he bought with him,” said one supporter, while another added: “Even when you won the league I wanted you out.”

“What took you so long?!” joked someone else, echoing a widespread feeling that Slot should have been relieved of his duties during the season.

“We thank God, today I can sleep,” was someone else’s response. “We’ve been waiting for this moment,” was another.

Though others also let themselves down by making cheap digs towards a Premier League-winning manager, the hope will be that, in time, Slot’s time with Liverpool will be seen in a better light, with these same supporters remembering the good, and forgiving the bad.

All the best Arne, thank you for it all. You’ll always be a Red.
