Liverpool’s form has suffered a steep decline in the last 12 months, and there is growing anger building towards Arne Slot.

Meanwhile, departing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has been linked to Liverpool in recent months, and the Merseyside outfit are now thought to have made a move for the manager, though a deal would be for the ‘future’ in this case.

Liverpool, AC Milan, Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen interested in Andoni Iraola

The word coming out of Liverpool at the moment is that Slot is staying at Anfield and will be in charge for 2026/27.

However, the Dutchman is out of contract in 2027 anyway, and if the Reds do start next season badly, it is hard to see the 47-year-old keeping his job.

In turn, it is perhaps not surprising to see journalist Gianluca Di Marzio now saying on X/Twitter that, along with AC Milan, Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool have made a move for the departing Bournemouth boss.

Crucially, though, he does clarify that in the Reds’ case, it would be an appointment for the future.

He stated: “According to information obtained from @BilbaoHiria, it’s not just @acmilan interested in Iraola. Crystal Palace, Liverpool (for the future), and above all Bayer Leverkusen have also made moves ahead of time for the coach, who is giving a great deal of thought to the decision to be made.”

Whether Iraola would wait for Liverpool remains to be seen, but there is precedent for such a move, with Enzo Maresca most recently waiting for Pep Guardiola to leave Manchester City before taking that job.

Meanwhile, the Spanish coach is yet to actually decide which club he will end up joining next.

Iraola was quizzed on his future immediately after Bournemouth’s final-day Premier League clash, in which they secured Europa League football.

He said: “Now is going to be the time to take decisions. I didn’t want to focus on other things before the season ended. For me it was massive to get this team in Europe. Now I will have to take decisions and I suppose it will not take long.

“It is a matter of feeling, feeling the team, the players, the correct place, more than if it is a bigger club. Sometimes they are not rational decisions, you don’t know why but you see it clearly. I don’t really know what I am going to do. I know there are some options but it is time now to recover a little bit, think with my family and let’s see where the future is.”
