Liverpool already know what they want to do with Kennet Eichhorn, assuming this transfer goes through.
While senior additions are obviously needed this summer, the Reds are also planning for the future. Liverpool have reached a deal for Samuel Martinez, the 17-year-old attacking midfielder arriving as part of the club’s long-term recruitment drive, and they are not done there.
Eichhorn is the latest youngster linked with an Anfield move, and this one appears to be progressing quickly. The 16-year-old Hertha Berlin midfielder is attracting major interest, but Liverpool have now presented him with a clear plan.
Why do you think Liverpool did not hand Mo a microphone during his Anfield farewell?
Surely he deserved the chance to say his piece!
Liverpool want Champions League loan for Kennet Eichhorn when he comes to Anfield
This would be a move for the future.
Eichhorn is one of Germany’s brightest midfield prospects after breaking into Hertha Berlin’s first team at just 16. The teenager has already started 14 league matches in Bundesliga 2, scoring once, and has been operating in a defensive midfield role.
That is a position Liverpool need to strengthen immediately, but Eichhorn would not be signed as a short-term solution.
According to Florian Plettenberg, the Reds have made their pathway clear in talks.
He wrote on X: “More on our exclusive news about 16 y/o gem Kennet Eichhorn. In personal meetings and talks, Liverpool presented him with a clear career plan — just like many other clubs did.

“LFC want to sign him now and then loan him out for 1-2 years to a club ideally playing in the UCL. LFC are already speaking with clubs that could become possible loan destinations.”
Eichhorn is not eligible to join Liverpool until next summer, when he turns 18, but the Reds can still try to get a deal lined up early.
If Liverpool wait until he is already starring at a higher level, the competition and price will only grow. His release clause is reportedly around €10m to €12m, which is a manageable fee for a player with such obvious long-term upside.
There will be plenty of competition to get this over the line. Plettenberg adds: “Main competitors: ManCity, Leverkusen, Bayern and Leipzig. Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart are also still hoping.”
Who would you rather see at Liverpool next season, Diomande or Barcola? 🤔
One of the most exciting teens in Europe vs a Champions League winner…
Throwing an 18-year-old straight into Liverpool’s midfield would be a huge ask.
Getting him Champions League experience elsewhere would allow him to develop without the pressure of Anfield every week.
Liverpool need ready-made quality this summer, but they also need to keep thinking ahead. Eichhorn looks like the kind of signing that will pay dividends a few years from now.
