Liverpool fans are no doubt so pleased that the 2025/26 season is now officially over for them.
When all was said and done, a disappointing 1-1 draw with Brentford was enough to ensure the Reds are playing Champions League football next term.
But just because they are in Europe next season, this campaign cannot be viewed as anything but poor, and Virgil van Dijk has now shared his honest thoughts on the season.
That’s how it all ends, Reds. What are your biggest concerns about this season?
And are there any positives to be found?
Virgil van Dijk calls Liverpool’s 2025/26 ‘poor’ and ‘disappointing’
Speaking live on Sky Sports News right after Sunday’s draw with Brentford, he said: “That’s the only positive [qualifying for the Champions League].
“Now we’ll say goodbye to legends of the club and focus is on that right now.
“The bare minimum that we should try and get out of this poor season. Onwards and upwards so we keep going.
“It’s been the most challenging year of my career. It’s tough to take, tough to go through that as a team.
“But we are Liverpool. We always come out of it stronger.”
Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson react to Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson’s final game
He was then asked about Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, who received a guard of honour after the Brentford game.
The Dutchman continued: “I’m definitely going to miss them. We, as a club, are going to miss them, their qualities and that’s life.
“Now it’s a wrap on a disappointing season. It’s been a tough year.”
Jordan Henderson, who featured for Brentford on Sunday, also spoke to Sky about the duo departing.
The former Red said: “It’s an emotional time seeing someone like Mo leave this club and everything that he’s given.
“I just thank him from me and the club. To watch him walk down there one final time was emotional for me as well.
“Tough day, for me personally and as a team, not getting over the line in Europe.”
