Talk of Arne Slot leaving Liverpool has once again emerged as the 2025/26 season nears its end.

The Reds have suffered 12 Premier League defeats this season and are now relying on Manchester City to guarantee their place in the 2026/27 Champions League.

Amid such a difficult campaign, there was talk about Liverpool eyeing four managers to potentially replace Slot, but Fabrizio Romano says no contact has been made with any other coaches.

What did you make of Salah’s explosive statement before his last game for the club?

This sounds like it was aimed at Slot…

Liverpool not in contact with other managers

Matthias Jaissle, Sebastian Hoeness, Andoni Iraola and Julian Nagelsmann were also mentioned as potential options for Liverpool.

However, speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has said that Slot’s situation has not changed, no managers have been approached, but there will be an end-of-season review.

He said: “Obviously in general, at Liverpool, guys don’t forget. And let me finish with this line. The end of the season review at Liverpool because there will be an end of the season review.

“I told you that several times is going to involve the players, the management and also the manager Arne Slot. So at the moment, Liverpool have not reached out for example to Xabi Alonso, who is going to Chelsea obviously, they’ve not reached out to other managers but Liverpool always insisted that they want to continue with Arne Slot.

“Obviously the end-of-the-season review is still going to be an important moment. The end-of-season review is still going to be crucial to mark the future at Liverpool Football Club. So we wait for this end of the season in order for the owners. So the most important people at Liverpool to decide what they want to do.

“At the moment again Liverpool have not approached other coaches like Xabi Alonso as they had the opportunity to do that. And also, it’s important to mention that the situation with Arne Slot this week is not changing full focus on the next game. Arne Slot confirmed his confidence to continue at Liverpool. We wait for this end of the season review.”

Xabi Alonso would have joined Liverpool

It’s a decision that is unlikely to go down too well with fans, some of whom may already feel they have missed out on a top coach.

Xabi Alonso has officially been announced as Chelsea’s head coach, but he could have been at Anfield had Slot been sacked.

ESPN journalist Rodra recently shared on X/Twitter that: “Xabi Alonso has been waiting these months for Liverpool and Manchester City. Chelsea has convinced him with a very powerful proposal. Both in terms of decision-making power in the club and on the economic front.”

There are still other options out there if Slot goes before the start of 2026/27, but the longer Liverpool persist with the Dutchman, the less chance they have of bringing in an ideal replacement.
