Liverpool fans are clinging onto hope of a good transfer window to turn their fortunes around after yet another defeat on Friday night.

A 4-2 loss at Villa Park made it 20 for the season including August’s Community Shield, leaving even the most positive of supporters feeling glum.

With Arne Slot looking likely to stay, the only chance of Liverpool being better next season is by adding some fresh impetus in the market. Defence is one area which needs some attention, and outgoing Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi has been heavily linked.

The 29-year-old was confirmed to be leaving the Cherries as a free agent on Friday, with Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Melo explaining the options Senesi has for his next destination.

Liverpool still retain chance of Senesi capture

What happens with Liverpool’s defensive options this summer very much rests on Ibrahima Konate’s contract extension.

Although an agreement had appeared to be close in April, it now looks more likely that Konate will leave, opening the door for another senior defender to arrive alongside young Jeremy Jacquet.

Having had an impressive season at Bournemouth, Senesi as a free agent would make a lot of sense, and according to Melo, it is still one to watch out for this summer.

“Through the official Bournemouth channels, Marcos Senesi announced his departure in this transfer window,” says the reporter.

“Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea are vying for him.”

TalkSPORT also confirm that the Reds are ‘in the mix’ for the Argentina international, who could provide an experienced partner for Virgil van Dijk as Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni establish themselves.

If Konate signs, it seems unlikely – and unnecessary – that Senesi would arrive, but as the Frenchman moves further and further away, seeing a new face in the back line next season feels like a big possibility.
