Gary Neville predicts how Arne Slot will react to Mohamed Salah’s explosive social media post

Mohamed Salah looks ready to take the handbrake off on his criticism of Arne Slot as he prepares to leave Liverpool.

Salah and Slot seemingly fell out last winter after the Dutchman decided to take his former star man out of the starting line-up.

Since then, there have been several back and forth exchanges between the pair, culminating in Salah posting a pointed message clearly aimed at Slot on Instagram and X on Saturday evening.

What did you make of Salah’s explosive statement before his last game for the club?

This sounds like it was aimed at Slot…

While Liverpool supporters have leapt to Salah’s defence online, it is not a great look for the Egyptian ahead of his Anfield farewell on Sunday. Giving his assessment of the post from an outside perspective, Gary Neville has claimed that Slot will not be happy at having to deal with yet another sideshow.

Slot will not be happy at all with Salah – Neville

With Liverpool badly needing to get a result against Brentford on Sunday, they could really do without Salah causing a scene in the build-up to the game.

Nevertheless, that is exactly what the outgoing veteran has done, with Neville telling Sky Sports that he would be ‘fuming’ if a player from his beloved Manchester United had decided to do similar.

“He’s pulled the pin out of a grenade there and just thrown it into the middle of the room. On his way out of the room, by the way!” said the pundit. “All’s not happy over there.”

“It’s not great,” Neville continued. “If it was a Manchester United player I’d be fuming. But what you can never do with this kind of character, this kind of personality and this stature of player, is keep them quiet. If they’ve got something to say they’re going to say it, and they’ll say it at the point where maybe you don’t want to hear it. And that’s what he’s done. It was a telling comment.”

Asked how he thinks Slot will react to Salah’s message, Neville said that it will likely add to the feeling for the Dutchman that he just needs the season to end.

“Arne Slot will not welcome that whatsoever,” he said. “But I think he’ll just want to get to the end of the season and get out of there, get everyone out of there that’s not going to be there next season and try and build.”

It will be fascinating to hear what Slot has to say during his pre-match press conference next Friday. But given that he has largely been measured and respectful in his responses to Salah so far, it is hard to see that changing at the last.
