Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa is ready to leave the club at the end of the season after another year of barely featuring.

Chiesa has become a cult hero since arriving from Juventus in 2024, but has only started two Premier League matches across two full seasons.

The time looks right to move on, and according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, that’s exactly what the Liverpool forward is likely to do.

Chiesa set for Serie A return

Chiesa has always been a willing player for Liverpool, regularly putting in the effort and work rate that has sadly been lacking from his teammates.

However, the quality just hasn’t been there. Whether that was a result of a lack of rhythm, or simply that the injury issues which plagued his final years with Juve caught up to him, we’ll never really know.

Either way, Liverpool fans have never seen the best of Chiesa, and according to Romano, they never will, with a return to Italy on the cards for this summer.

“Federico Chiesa is ready to leave the Liverpool project this summer; barring any surprises, he’ll leave,” the journalist shared on WhatsApp on Friday evening.

“A return to Serie A is possible for the former Fiorentina and Juventus player.”

Expanding on the point a little further, Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto confirmed on Romano’s Italian language YouTube channel that Chiesa wants a bigger role at his next club.

“I’m bringing you this news that Fabrizio told us via WhatsApp last night,” said Moretto. “If I’m not mistaken Fabrizio said Chiesa will leave Liverpool in the summer. A decision has practically been made.

“Chiesa wants to play more, he wants to have more of a leading role. In theory Italy could be a good solution for him, so let’s see.”

Though his Liverpool career will always go down as a real ‘what if’, Chiesa will still leave the Reds as a Premier League title winner, and an immensely popular one at that.
