Liverpool suffered a harrowing loss to Aston Villa on Friday night, and Dominik Szoboszlai has drawn the ire of supporters for his off-field activities less than 24 hours later.

The Hungarian gifted Villa a goal with a slip during the second half of the 4-2 Premier League loss, but that is not what has got fans so worked up.

Instead, Szoboszlai is doing brand deals on social media and the reaction to his post, as expected, is not positive.

Who was Liverpool’s worst player on a terrible night at Villa Park?

The challenge here is to pick only one!

Dominik Szoboszlai Instagram post after Aston Villa annoys Liverpool fans

Posting just after 9am on Saturday morning, Szoboszlai’s official Instagram account promoted a paid partnership post with McDonald’s.

Why Premier League footballers would need extra money from brand deals is another debate, but the timing of the post, which comes the morning after Liverpool lost their 12th Premier League game of the season, is what has annoyed fans the most.

Just some of the comments from fans were as follows:

Liverpool could make Dominik Szoboszlai their next captain

Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player on the pitch this season, but it is hard to argue with the fan reaction to his latest social media activity.

It sums up the 2025/26 campaign under Arne Slot perfectly, with fans so disillusioned with the manager and even some of the players.

Szoboszlai has been mooted to replace Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool captain one day.

But while he’s been superb on the pitch, such a post perhaps suggests he’s not quite ready to be the figurehead of this team just yet.
