Liverpool fans have had enough of Arne Slot and many would no doubt take Xabi Alonso coming in to replace the Dutchman.
An Alonso return has been mooted for a while, though all the noise at present is that the Reds will not make a change and Slot will remain in the dugout.
In the meantime, the Spaniard looks set to be closing in on a Chelsea move, and an appointment could take a step closer after the FA Cup final on Saturday, while Liverpool have not made contact for their former player.
Who was Liverpool’s worst player on a terrible night at Villa Park?
The challenge here is to pick only one!
Liverpool not in contact for Xabi Alonso
Liverpool lost to Aston Villa in convincing fashion on Friday night, and fans have just had enough.
Even if Alonso wasn’t some fans’ first choice earlier this year, it now feels like anyone but Slot would do for most.
However, when speaking on his YouTube channel in the aftermath of Friday’s Premier League action, Fabrizio Romano reported that the Merseyside outfit haven’t made contact for Alonso.
He said: “Many of you asking me if Liverpool arrived at this stage for Xabi Alonso.
“As of today, Friday night, Saturday morning, Liverpool have not activated the option Xabi Alonso. Even after night, another disappointing defeat for Liverpool against Aston Villa. Another poor performance. 20 defeats for Liverpool this season.
“Liverpool as of today have not reached out to Xabi Alonso. As I always told you, if they do so, I will be here to tell you and we will tell you what’s going to happen. But as of today, Liverpool are yet to reach out to Xabi Alonso. So that remains the situation.”

Instead, it is looking more and more likely that the ex-midfielder will end up at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea take on Manchester City in the 2025/26 FA Cup final at 3pm on Saturday, going into the fixture without a permanent head coach.
However, talkSPORT have reported that the Blues are closing in on a deal for the ex-Real Madrid manager.
He won’t arrive before the showpiece at Wembley, but the West London outfit are ‘expected to ratify the appointment’ after the final.
