Giorgi Mamardashvili may be made Liverpool No.1 sooner than expected

Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation is suddenly throwing up all sorts of questions, with Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili both pressing matters to discuss.

Alisson has been one of Liverpool’s most important players for years, but Juventus are now said to be in talks with the Brazilian, who is open to the move. That does not mean an exit is certain, and it certainly does not mean Alisson is pushing to leave Anfield.

But if the 33-year-old does move on this summer, Liverpool’s plan already appears to be clear. Mamardashvili would be given the chance to become the club’s new No.1.

Who should advance into the semi-final as Liverpool’s Player of the Year?

Liverpool are decided on Giorgi Mamardashvili if Alisson leaves

We know the ball is still in Liverpool’s court with Alisson.

The Brazil international is heading into the final year of his contract, but he has an excellent relationship with the club and is not expected to force the issue.

Ben Jacobs has now gone into more detail about the current situation on X, reporting that Juventus are in talks with Alisson and that the goalkeeper is open to joining them.

He adds that Alisson would approach any possible exit in the same way Andy Robertson has. In other words, he is not agitating to leave and would only move if it worked for all parties. We knew that already.

The new information is that, should Alisson leave, Mamardashvili ‘will be given the chance’ to become Liverpool’s No.1 next season.

There have been question marks over the Georgian in his debut campaign. He has not always looked totally convincing, and stepping into Alisson’s role would be one of the biggest challenges any goalkeeper in Europe could face.

But Liverpool still view him as the long-term future of the position. The club ‘have done homework’ on other goalkeepers as part of their due diligence, but Mamardashvili remains the player they believe can eventually take over.

Now, that doesn’t mean they are ready to let the Brazilian leave. Losing Alisson would be a massive blow, and a self-inflicted one at that.
