Liverpool are about to make a behind-the-scenes move that will be ‘very good’

Liverpool have had so much change to deal with behind the scenes since Arne Slot arrived.

Some of that has been about replacing legends on the pitch, but there has also been real turnover within the Liverpool coaching staff. Jurgen Klopp’s long-serving group left, Slot arrived with his own ideas, and the backroom structure has continued to evolve since then.

That is where Etienne Reijnen comes in. The Feyenoord assistant is now being heavily linked with a move to Anfield, having previously been unable to join Slot in 2024. For Liverpool, it looks like a move the club are genuinely excited about.

Lewis Steele says Liverpool move likely for Etiënne Reijnen

Reijnen is someone Slot knows extremely well. He worked with the Liverpool head coach at Feyenoord, where he was a key figure in their Eredivisie win.

The move did not happen when Slot first came to Anfield in 2024, with work permit issues reportedly preventing him from joining Liverpool’s staff at that stage.

Now, though, the situation appears to have changed. Speaking to Anfield Index, Lewis Steele suggested Reijnen is now likely to get the chance to make the move to Merseyside.

He said: “Yeah, it sounds like Etienne Reijnen or whatever his name is is going to be coming to Liverpool, or at least he’s going to be allowed to make the decision to come to Liverpool. We know that he wasn’t able to back in 2024.

“I don’t know much about him other than the conversations I have had about him or people say he’s very good.”

Reijnen has built a strong reputation in the Netherlands, having worked at Feyenoord after previously spending time at PEC Zwolle and Cambuur. He has stayed around under Robin van Persie, who has publicly praised his work at Feyenoord.

Van Persie recently admitted that Reijnen’s future is largely up to the club and the coach himself, while also describing him as a fantastic person who performs his role very well.

Most of the headlines this summer will inevitably be about players, signings and exits. But coaching staff changes can be just as important, especially when Slot is still shaping Liverpool in his own image.
