Where Arne Slot should go next if Liverpool give him the sack this summer

As it stands, Liverpool look to be sticking with Arne Slot despite the calamity that has been this season.

If that stance changes, though, there will certainly be a market for a Premier League-winning coach like the Dutchman. Slot has been flamed by Liverpool fans often this season, but those frustrations don’t mean he’s a poor manager.

It’s not Liverpool’s style to sack a manager without careful consideration, but if they were to let Slot go, here are three clubs he would be perfect for.

Arne Slot’s next club after Liverpool

The first suggestion, and my personal favourite, is Slot taking over at Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern are the dominant force in the Bundesliga again, and knocking them off their perch is an intimidating challenge. Any of Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig or Dortmund could benefit from a coach of his quality.

All three clubs have managers under contract until 2027, but that doesn’t mean a switch won’t be made. Dortmund feels the most likely. Niko Kovac’s side have won just two of their last five games and there’s a sense that the best isn’t being extracted from what is an extremely talented young squad.

While German football feels like the better fit, there’s something to be said for a Serie A move.

Antonio Conte is currently in charge at Napoli, but there have been delays with extending his contract. They are one of the more exciting, direct sides in Italy, and Slot’s style would suit their squad.

Napoli finished 30th in the Champions League standings this season, after missing out the year before. The Dutchman’s controlled, pressing system has been far more successful on the European stage so there’s good reason to believe he could make a positive difference.

Lastly, and most controversially, is a move that would see Slot stay in the Premier League.

Not Man United, not Chelsea, not Spurs. He could take over at the Etihad, and here’s why it’s not as crazy as it sounds.

Slot arrived at Anfield last season after the departure of a true club icon in Jurgen Klopp. He brought calm to the dressing room and made small tweaks to take Liverpool to the title. It would be a case of repeating the trick in Manchester.

Enzo Maresca is tipped to replace Pep Guardiola, but Slot has already shown he can do that job of filling sizeable boots in the dugout.

As we mentioned at the top, Liverpool probably won’t sack Slot. If they do, though, it won’t be long before we see him on the sideline again.
