Liverpool are reportedly ready to ramp up efforts over signing soon-to-be free agent Marcos Senesi this summer.

The Reds are still potentially in need of a direct replacement for Ibrahima Konate, with the Frenchman’s contract situation continuing to go unresolved.

In the meantime, Liverpool have been named as potential suitors for Senesi, who will leave Bournemouth when his own contract expires at the end of the season.

Now, according to journalist Matteo Moretto, the Reds are readying new contacts with the Argentine, having previously shown ‘a lot of interest’ in bringing him to Anfield.

Liverpool set for Senesi discussions

Saturday brought claims that Liverpool are looking at signing Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke regardless of whether Konate signs a new deal or not.

As a result, links to Senesi may not be connected to the No. 5’s ongoing stand-off.

Either way, Moretto took to X on Saturday evening to confirm that Liverpool’s interest in the 28-year-old is genuine, and that new discussions are set to take place in the near future.

“Recently, Liverpool have shown a lot of interest in Marcos Senesi,” wrote the journalist.

“They could be the unexpected solution for the defender, whose contract with Bournemouth is about to expire. Soon there will be new contacts.”

Moretto had previously reported that Senesi is set to stay in the Premier League this summer, with Chelsea and Tottenham rivalling Liverpool for his signature.

Interestingly, Richard Hughes knows Senesi’s qualities well having signed him for Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022, where he played for one season under Arne Slot.

On a free transfer, the three-cap Argentina international could make sense as a cut-price option while Giovanni Leoni is eased back in following his serious knee injury.
