Steven Gerrard, after being out of work since 2025, now appears to be a man in demand going into the summer.

Gerrard was linked to Middlesbrough earlier this season, before fresh reports this week claimed Bristol City wanted the former midfielder to replace Roy Hodgson after 2025/26.

Now, the Liverpool legend is being mooted for a return to management with Burnley.

Steven Gerrard gives green light to potential Burnley job

The Clarets will once again be plying their trade in the Championship next season after picking up just 20 points in 34 Premier League matches so far this term.

Burnley have a positive history in the second tier, though, most recently winning promotion with 100 points alongside Leeds United.

Now, they have identified Gerrard as an option who could lead their promotion charge come 2026/27.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri on X/Twitter: “Things are speeding up at Burnley FC!

“Clarets have entered talks with Steven Gerrard’s representatives to make the Reds legend their new head coach. Englishman has given the green light to move forward…”

Steven Gerrard’s record as a manager

If he does take the Burnley or Bristol City roles this summer, it will be Gerrard’s first job since late January 2025, when he left Al-Ettifaq.

During his time with the Middle East outfit, the former Liverpool man won 19, drew 16 and lost 20 of his 55 matches in the dugout.

Prior to that, Gerrard had a spell with Aston Villa where he won 13, drew eight and lost 19.

His first senior role in the dugout came with Rangers and was his most positive spell to date.

In Scotland, the ex-midfielder managed to secure 124 wins, 41 draws and lost 27 times.

Some Liverpool fans wanted Gerrard to replace Arne Slot during the 2025/26 season, but the Dutchman does not appear close to losing his job anytime soon.
