Liverpool have four games left in their Premier League title defence, and while they didn’t come close to going back-to-back, there’s still scope for a positive end to the season.
It starts with a trip to Old Trafford on Sunday, before Liverpool face Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Brentford to round out the campaign.
Recent performances are encouraging. Liverpool’s winning streak in the Premier League was stretched to three at the weekend, and it suggests a strong end to the season is possible. Here are three players Rousing The Kop think could make all the difference in the month of May.
With Arne Slot expected to stay, will Liverpool challenge for the Premier League next season?
Or will it be another difficult campaign? 😬
Liverpool’s Premier League run-in difference-makers
Florian Wirtz
As debut seasons go, it hasn’t been the best nor the worst for Florian Wirtz. It’s fair to say the expectations that come with a £116 million fee have not been met, but that would have been near-impossible given how Liverpool have struggled.
That being said, the 22-year-old has more goal involvements across all competitions than Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer, and the flashes of quality he shows regularly make it hard to imagine things not working out for him at Anfield.
Entering these final weeks, Wirtz should be full of confidence after his goal against Palace, and this is the perfect time for him to stamp his authority on the side. Liverpool will need individual moments to make the difference, and there’s no player in this team more capable of producing.
How he fares will depend largely on the relationship he can strike up with another crucial Liverpool star.

Alexander Isak
We are finally seeing Alexander Isak as a regular in the staring lineup, and his goal at the weekend will do wonders for his confidence.
With Hugo Ekitike and Mohamed Salah out injured, Liverpool’s attacking output will need to come predominantly from the Swede. His form in the final weeks could be even more important than that of Wirtz.
He has gotten a taste of scoring goals at Anfield, and will have two more chances to experience that again. Isak also has his first trip to Old Trafford as a Liverpool player to look forward to.
There’s no reason a player of his quality shouldn’t be making a difference in the four games left to play.
Alexis Mac Allister
Moving back the pitch slightly, Alexis Mac Allister’s return to form could be massive for Liverpool.
After a season plagued by inconsistency and fatigue, the World Cup winner is finally looking like himself again. Maybe that has to do with the growing speculation surrounding his future at the club.

His legs look like they've gone! Who should replace him?
Whatever the case, his return to form has coincided with Liverpool’s positive run, and it’s imperative that he maintains these levels in the final weeks.
At his best, Mac Allister is a special kind of midfielder who can pull the strings and come up with vital moments in the final third. With rumours claiming this could be his last season at Liverpool, the Argentinian will want to put his best foot forward.
And doing so could be the difference between Liverpool finishing on the edge of the top five or firmly in third.
