Liverpool have been looking at PSG players a lot lately, and the latest target might be the most realistic yet.
The Reds have been credited with interest in Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but all three are genuine superstars in Paris. Realistically, prising any of them away from the French champions would take a huge fee and a very specific set of circumstances.
A less untouchable name is 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye. Liverpool have long admired the young winger, and according to a new report, they are now in pole position to sign him.
Who replaces Mohamed Salah against Man United on Sunday? 👀
Liverpool are frontrunners to sign Ibrahim Mbaye from PSG
Liverpool were linked with Mbaye last summer, so this is not a name that has suddenly appeared from nowhere.
The teenager is viewed as one of PSG’s more promising young attackers, but breaking through in Paris is never easy. That appears to have opened the door to a possible move to Anfield.
According to a report from CaughtOffside, Premier League interest in Mbaye is growing, but Liverpool are currently leading the race. Newcastle United and Aston Villa are said to be considering more serious approaches, while Manchester City, West Ham United and Brighton are also keeping tabs on his situation.
The teenager is still under contract at PSG until 2028, so the French club are not under immediate pressure to sell. However, the report claims his market value is around £26million, and that feels like the sort of price Liverpool would be wise to explore.
You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?
Who should Richard Hughes be targeting above all…
He is raw, and this would very much be one for the long-term. Mbaye is not a direct Mohamed Salah replacement by any means, and Liverpool would still need to sign another senior winger if they are reshaping the attack this summer.
Still, at £26 million, this looks like good business with high upside. Liverpool should first see if any of PSG’s first-team attackers are actually gettable, but if not, Mbaye would be a good option, and a deal like this could do plenty for the squad’s attacking depth.
