Liverpool could send shockwaves through the Premier League by breaking a 24-year transfer tradition and signing Everton star Iliman Ndiaye.

Since the news broke that Mo Salah will leave Liverpool, all the chat has been around replacing the Egyptian icon.

It has added some excitement to the usual lull of the international break, and this might be the most explosive link yet.

Liverpool are said to be planning a swoop on their fierce Merseyside rivals to bring Ndiaye to Anfield. And this isn’t just wishful thinking.

Liverpool fans…just how good would Iliman Ndiaye be in this current team?

Liverpool and Man United are serious about Iliman Ndiaye

Ndiaye is not being treated as a throwaway rumour. TEAMtalk says he is getting serious attention from Anfield decision-makers, with Liverpool having monitored him since the early part of the season before accelerating that interest as plans for life after Salah gathered pace.

The Reds are said to have already explored bigger-name options such as Michael Olise, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola, only to be told those players are most likely not for sale.

That has pushed FSG towards more realistic targets, and Ndiaye would be perfect for Liverpool. His ability to play across the frontline, his effectiveness from the right, and his direct running and creativity are all seen as qualities that could help soften the blow of losing Salah.

Not to mention, he has the same deceptive strength and balance that made the Egyptian such a headache for defenders. He has six goals and three assists in the league this season in 25 outings.

Frankly, he is already one of the most exciting players to watch in the Premier League when he is in full flow, so it is easy to see why Liverpool would be tempted.

There is still a huge obstacle, though. Everton have him under contract until 2029 and are even considering improved terms, while Manchester United are also firmly in the race.

Which players should Liverpool target to replace Mohamed Salah this summer? 🤔

A seven-man shortlist has already been reported:

Despite the historical lack of business between the two sides of the Mersey, Ndiaye is no fantasy link. He is being looked at seriously.

For Liverpool, it would obviously be a huge coup, but I’d also argue he’s one of the best wide options out there.
