Mohamed Salah’s exit announcement was upsetting for many Liverpool fans, but Graeme Souness has a rather different reaction.
The former Red has spoken out after Liverpool announced Salah’s departure. He was taken aback by the news as well, but more so because he doesn’t understand the decision.
Souness went on a rather scathing rant about the Egyptian, who he feels hasn’t taken accountability for his struggles this season.

Graeme Souness questions Liverpool decision and goes in on Mohamed Salah
Salah’s poor form for Liverpool this season is well-documented. After a historic title-winning campaign in which he put the Reds’ attacking load on his own shoulders, extending his contract felt like a no-brainer.
Now, it looks less wise, especially because Salah is set to leave for free.
Posting to TikTok, the Scotsman began: “Just heard the breaking news that Salah’s going to leave at the end of the season. Both club and him have agreed to part ways.
“It’s strange. They were bending backwards to give him a two-year deal at the end of the season. Within eight months, the relationship is broken down.”
Souness went on to acknowledge Salah’s undeniable status as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players, but that was simply a caveat for the criticism that swiftly followed.
He continued: “He’s been hopeless this year. Hopeless by his standards. The numbers tell you that. And then his antics where he comes out and says he feels he’s been thrown under the bus by the manager.
“Well, for me, that’s not how you should have reacted. The first thing you should have done, but even before that, is look in the mirror. What am I doing? What am I not doing? I’m not creating. I’m not being the great player I’ve been for this football club.
“So maybe, just maybe, if he had lost his mojo, the time to sell him was at the start of the season, given the outlay that was put down to get the new players in. I think it’s a sad end to someone who had been a great player for that football club.”
The rant didn’t end there. Souness concluded by allocating the blame for this whole debacle. No prizes for guessing his culprit.
“It’s him. Got no one else to blame. It’s not the manager. It’s not his teammates. It’s him. And that’s that. I’ll be interested in terms of to hear what he has to say about his departure, who he wants to hang his disappointing form on. It’ll be anyone but him, I’ll bet. Let’s wait and see.”

Nine years of sheer brilliance are coming to an end…
Not the reverence we have mostly seen since the news broke, but rather an honest criticism of a player who Souness thinks has let himself and Liverpool down. He isn’t making anything up, and he can talk like this as someone who won plenty during his time at Anfield.
But what’s done is done. Salah is going. Better to give him the farewell tour he deserves than cry over spilt milk.
