Mohamed Salah’s impending Liverpool departure is expected to hit Dominik Szoboszlai especially hard.

Since it was confirmed the player is leaving Anfield this summer, many Reds stars have paid tribute to Salah, including the likes of Rio Ngumoha.

But Szoboszlai and the winger have a special connection, which has seen the former previously call the Liverpool icon one of his closest teammates.

Dominik Szoboszlai has a close relationship with Mohamed Salah

The 25-year-old midfielder arrived in England from RB Leipzig in 2023 and quickly found his core friendship group.

Speaking in April 2024, Szoboszlai revealed Salah was one of his closest teammates at the club after previously having a good relationship with now Real Madrid ace, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

When asked which players he gets on with the most, he said: “At the start it was Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and it is still him.

“But as I’ve settled into the team, I can say it’s Salah, too. I’ve found common ground with everyone, so I can talk with everyone. Everyone gets on well with each other and although there aren’t many group events but when there is, everyone is there.”

Mohamed Salah has shown his admiration for Dominik Szoboszlai

Since Szoboszlai moved to Liverpool, the duo have played together a total of 119 times across all competitions.

They have combined for 15 goals while on the pitch together, the joint-eighth most of Salah’s current and former Reds teammates, along with Andy Robertson.

As well as having a special connection on the pitch, Salah has praised Szoboszlai’s efforts publicly as well.

Just last month, the former AS Roma star said that the versatile midfielder was one of the best in the world, as quoted by Sky Sports.

After the 3-0 win over Brighton in the FA Cup, he said: “I think a cup run depends on his [Szoboszlai’s] performances. We rely on him so much. This season he is one of the best players in the world.”
