Liverpool fans had a lot to say about Arne Slot’s decision-making during their Premier League meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Reds were without a couple of key names heading into the clash, with Alisson now out for a while and Mohamed Salah sidelined as well.

Despite those absences, Arne Slot left Rio Ngumoha on the bench for a second game in a row, with Cody Gakpo starting. While the Dutchman is normally a point of contention among the fanbase, Liverpool supporters were instead commenting on Curtis Jones being brought on to replace Hugo Ekitike ahead of Rio Ngumoha.

Thoughts on no Ngumoha in the XI again?

Liverpool fans baffled by Curtis Jones replacing Hugo Ekitike vs Brighton

The Merseyside outfit started the game slowly, with the game paused twice so the Frenchman could receive treatment after colliding with James Milner.

After it became clear Ekitike could not continue, Jones was the man Slot decided should replace the striker.

However, many supporters were left baffled by the call when Ngumoha was still sitting on the bench.

One fan questioned: “Curtis? We got Chiesa and Ngumoha.”

A second added: “Why is Ngumoha not coming in for Ekitike? We have zero pace in that attack at the moment.”

Another wrote: “The lack of pace in our team now is incredible. Not bringing on Ngumoha is typical Slot cowardice.”

“Unbelievable he brought on Jones instead of Ngumoha,” commented another.

A fifth Liverpool fan stated: “Why are we putting Jones on for Ekitike? Ngumoha is right there you —–.”

While a sixth added: “Two man of the matches in his two recent starts and Ngumoha is still sat down, horrific.”

Shortly after the change, Brighton took the lead via Danny Welbeck and after a bright performance in midweek, normal service was resumed in the Premier League.

It really is concerning how much worse Liverpool are domestically this season, and a player like Ngumoha, who is creating chances for fun, would certainly have injected more life into the game from the Reds’ perspective.
