Arne Slot became the first manager to drop points against Igor Tudor’s Tottenham Hotspur this season, being forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Prior to the match, expectations were high, with Wayne Rooney backing the Reds to score six against Spurs.

However, it was a lacklustre showing from Liverpool vs Tottenham, and the demand to see Slot sacked and Xabi Alonso brought in is growing among the fanbase.

Who was Liverpool’s best player on another poor day at Anfield?

Not many to choose from…

Liverpool fans want Xabi Alonso after Tottenham draw

The home side took the lead via Dominik Szoboszlai after 18 minutes, but their second-half showing was poor.

In the end, Richarlison scored the equaliser, and shortly after that goal went in, fans made it clear they want Alonso to be their next manager.

One fan wrote: “Just sack slot and give Alonso more time to get this team in the shape he wants them.”

A second echoed: “I’d get Slot gone tonight. Get Alonso secured for the summer at least. Almost any interim man would do better.”

“Get Alonso in pronto,” stated another fan shortly after the equaliser.

Another added: “Sack that fraud Slot and get Alonso in for the sake of the fans. This can’t go on till the end of the season.”

“Alonso is right there. Go get him in now,” stated a fifth Liverpool supporter.

A sixth commented: “Yes, players aren’t performing at the top of their game, but Slot really can’t do anything to make this team buzz. Making Anfield bounce again. He’s responsible for this. Please get Alonso now.”

While another stated: “Been Slot in but it’s getting harder to back him, starting to turn Slot out now and to be honest, thinking about it, a new manager bounce with Alonso, for example, could be good for us to get top 4 and potentially win the Champions League.”

Will Xabi Alonso be Liverpool manager by the start of the 2026/27 season?

If no, where will he be instead?

However, while Alonso continues to be linked, the latest line from the club suggests the ex-midfielder may not be on FSG’s radar right now.

According to David Ornstein, ‘there’s not people on the market that they think better suit what they’re looking for’ right now than Slot.

That would seemingly include the Spaniard, who has been out of work since leaving his post with Real Madrid in January.

Whether that is just the club appearing to show support for Slot until a review in the summer remains to be seen, of course.

But it’s unlikely to please fans if Alonso ends up taking a job elsewhere in the coming months.
