Jamie Carragher questions whether Arne Slot should be replaced after Tottenham

The future of Arne Slot is once again a talking point after Liverpool failed to beat a struggling Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite Spurs losing four and conceding 14 under Igor Tudor prior to Sunday, they secured a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Liverpool failed to make it into the top four as a result, and Jamie Carragher has now asked if a new manager would make things better, though he’s unsure that would help.

Jamie Carragher unsure new Liverpool manager would help

Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Carragher suggested replacing Slot might not change much.

Instead, he pointed towards the type of players who were signed in the summer as an issue.

He said: “And the big question on everybody’s lips is that down to the manager or the makeup of the squad? Could a new manager completely revitalise these type of players and bring that energy and sort of intensity back into this team? I’m not sure.

“I think a lot of it goes back to what happened in the summer, the profile of the players that came in and there’s just too many players who just want to play when the ball’s at their feet.

“They don’t want to dig in and make it difficult. That’s why it’s so easy to play against this Liverpool team.”

Will Xabi Alonso be Liverpool manager by the start of the 2026/27 season?

If no, where will he be instead?

Which managers have been linked to replace Arne Slot

At the moment, the stance of the club is that they are backing Slot. But how long can that last?

Liverpool could still miss out on a top-four/five place and by the end of April 4, may well be out of the remaining two cup competitions if they carry on as they are.

Should they indeed decide to make a change in the dugout at some point, Xabi Alonso has been linked previously.

There were also rumours of potential interest in Oliver Glasner earlier this season, with the manager, of course, due to leave Crystal Palace this year.

However, it seems that Slot will be sticking around for the time being.
