Liverpool Fan Poll: 40% say FA Cup and top four finish essential for Arne Slot’s future

Liverpool are set to face off with Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The cup competition has been something of an afterthought in recent years, with much of the focus instead put on winning the Premier League and Champions League.

However, Liverpool’s league campaign has been poor, and they are currently sitting sixth in the division, only recently ending a run of one win in seven.

Manchester United and Chelsea are leading the race for Champions League football right now, and talk around Arne Slot’s future remains.

With their title defence up in smoke and a potential top-four finish not guaranteed, cup success may be the only way to save this season.

Liverpool fans vote in favour of Arne Slot leaving

Now, using Rousing The Kop’s TalkingPoints platform, fans have voted on whether an FA Cup triumph would be enough to keep Slot in a job.

21.92% voted yes, 38.22% voted no and 39.86% voted no, unless Liverpool get top four as well.

Taking to the comments section of the discussion, one fan wrote: “Most will probably say no, but I actually think it should be enough. Alongside top four, definitely, but winning silverware in such a difficult campaign would be great even if we finish 5th/6th.”

“No. Would be the sort of level you expect from Man Utd, not us,” a second stated.

Another added: “No definitely not. We have lost our identity this season and look a shadow of the team we were the first half of last season and the 8 years previous. We have been pretty poor since after the PSG game last season. We thought the lads had checked out because they won the league.”

A fourth wrote: “No, £400m spent to improve a title winning squad, massively underachieving.”

Another suggested: “I imagine not. Whether that’s right or not is indifferent. But I think the board will move him on and try and get Nagelsmann.”

Liverpool’s unwelcome fourth-round record before Brighton

Winning the FA Cup certainly wouldn’t harm Slot’s chances of being manager come next season.

But the 47-year-old must first guide his side past Brighton at 8pm on February 14.

Liverpool have won the competition fairly recently, lifting the trophy in 2022.

However, they have been eliminated from six of their last nine fourth-round matches, including three in the last five campaigns.
