Fans explain their view on Marc Guehi’s Liverpool snub
There are few issues on which all corners of a fanbase can agree.
This is the case with the Guehi boos. We did a poll in which over 400 readers responded. The results at time of writing:
Were Liverpool fans right to boo Marc Guehi’s every touch vs Man City?
| Yes, he betrayed us 🤬 | 38% |
| No, weird behaviour 🫣 | 27% |
| Who cares? 😑 | 35% |
A situation that has clearly split opinion.
For those in the yes camp, it was quite simple.
One fan said: “Absolutely. The mighty pound won. No respect or honour.”
Another agreed: “The lad said he wanted to play for Liverpool , then U-turns because of money he’s a joke.”
Guehi not sticking to his word was the common answer, with a bit of financial greed thrown in.
Others are less angry, but not averse to the reception he got. Like this fan, who says: “I have no problem with it at all. Liverpool were clearly ready to wait for him and he decided to jump to a rival on a big contract.
“He’s fine to do as he pleases, but if fans thought booing him can give us an edge in a tight game, then what’s the issue?”

This was the more laid-back view. Who cares?
Another fan chimes in: “It’s not that deep. Panto stuff to try put him off.”
Others sympathise with Guehi, believing it’s Liverpool’s fault he’s not at the club: “I am quite sure he really wanted to join as he had all the terms agreed with Liverpool, but it’s Liverpool who were trying to delay things as to bring down his signing amount.
“And that’s where they missed the trick as Palace pulled the plug at the eleventh hour and Liverpool had to bite the dust so don’t blame the player he is absolutely right!”
And in agreement: “Don’t think it’s Guehi’s fault, I blame Hughes for penny pinching in the wrong places. We needed a full back that was clear we didn’t buy, we have to live with it and suffer the outcome.”
The ‘yes’ and the ‘don’t care’ camp are along the same lines. Why not try to put an opponent off and capitalise on the advantage playing at Anfield gives us.
